Ah, yes, the American dream. We all strive to achieve financial stability and own our very own house. Most people imagine having a large, beautiful home with a nice backyard, perfect for social gatherings and fun outdoor activities. That’s what everyone wants, right? Well, not exactly.

Tiny houses have become trendy in recent years, as many people are seeking a simpler and more sustainable lifestyle. Tiny houses are often defined as homes that are 400 square feet or smaller, and they are designed to maximize functionality and minimize living expenses.

You may think, “Why would you want such a small home?” It’s a fair question, but there are also very many benefits to a tiny house. Some people love the idea of a cozy little space, plus they are more affordable. With today’s housing crisis, epidemic of homelessness, and environmental issues, tiny houses could be the solution.

Some may choose to downsize and live in a tiny house, but then there are those who have few options for living, and find themselves on the streets. Tiny houses are currently being used to help house people in need and to end homelessness.

Tiny home projects for homeless people have been successful in many countries around the world. Here are a few examples:

1. The Tiny Homes Foundation in Australia has built several tiny homes villages for people experiencing homelessness. These villages provide residents with safe, secure, and affordable housing options, as well as access to supportive services like healthcare and job training. The Tiny Homes Foundation has been successful in reducing homelessness in the areas where their villages are located.

2. The Tiny House Village in Seattle, Washington has been successful in providing transitional housing for people experiencing homelessness. The village consists of several tiny houses, each with a sleeping area, a kitchenette, and a bathroom. The village also has a shared kitchen, dining area, and community garden. The Tiny House Village has been successful in providing a safe and supportive environment for residents to rebuild their lives.

3. The Eden Project in the United Kingdom has developed a Tiny Homes project for homeless veterans. The project provides veterans with safe and secure housing, as well as access to mental health services, job training, and other supportive services. The project has been successful in reducing homelessness among veterans in the UK.

Overall, tiny home projects for homeless people have been successful in providing safe and affordable housing options, as well as access to supportive services. While the success of these projects can vary depending on local circumstances, they have shown that tiny homes can be an effective solution for addressing homelessness in many different countries.

Why is this not more of a thing in America? Well, we hope to change that. Sanctuary Village is currently raising money to start building a tiny house community in Philadelphia, PA. We plan to build 15 tiny houses to provide safe and comfortable homes for homeless women over the age of 55. We don’t want to stop there! Hopefully we’ll see success in this endeavor and be able to build more communities.

If you want to support this cause, you can donate, volunteer, host a fundraiser, buy jewelry or planters that we offer, sponsor a tiny house, or just help us grow on social media by following us on Instagram @phillysanctuaryvillage.

Together we can end homelessness for good! Tiny homes will lead us into a brighter future. We must never give up hope for building a country where all have a home.
